

June 17, 1928 - February 17th, 2022.
Throughout his life he was a man with a vision and plan. He had a calling for the ministry and followed it. In the very early years of this pursuit, he met Barbara, his wife of 66 years.
The ministry led him to the United Church of Christ and his first assignment took them the Hawaiian Islands. A church in Waimea on Kauai where his daughters Joanna and Janice were born and then to his second church in Honolulu on Oahu where his son Jay was born.
From there they headed back to the mainland and the small town of Clackamas Oregon. He worked to build the congregation and eventually to help design and build a new church for Clackamas UCC. He was very proud of the huge stained-glass window he designed.
From the ministry he had the opportunity to move into education and started a new long-term career with Portland Public Schools. From classroom teacher to administration his calling in education was to help inner city kids have all the possible opportunities and achieve their goals.
Throughout his career he was on numerous Boards, worked with the City of Wilsonville, and always seemed to reach out to those who needed help and support the ideal of social equality.
Norman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara. His daughter Joanna Pienovi and husband Dave, daughter Janice Bengel, and son Jay Bengel and wife Mary.
Grand children Kori, Jon, Michael, Kami, Kolbi, Keaton, Carlie and Christian.
As well as 13 great grandchildren.
