

Pearl was born to Ernest Franklin Hoffmeister & Lela Florence Richey on May 4, 1921 in Eagle Creek, Oregon. She was the oldest of five children, Pearl, Opal, William, Ann and James. She went to Eagle Creek grade school and Sandy High School. She graduated in 1940.
She married Carl E Lewis May 31, 1942 in Vancouver, Washington.
They had four children; Jane, Jerry, Bonnie, and Barbara and lived in the Boring Oregon area and later moved to the Parkrose area.
Mom once described her occupation as: Director of Health, Education & Welfare, Secretary of Treasury, Head of Entertainment & Public Relations, Chairman of House Rules Committee & Home Engineer.
She and Carl were active in Oregon Grange #260 and earned a “Bachelor of Square Dancing” from the “Country Cut Ups” in Boring Oregon. They joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in May of 1962. They were very active in church activities and served a Couple’s Mission to Pennsylvania Harrisburg Mission from 1984-1985.
Pearl and Carl enjoyed fishing and camping and spent many hours traveling around Oregon and to Nebraska and Alaska with their tent trailer. Many camping trips were taken with the children and grandchildren to the Wallowa Mountains. Pearl loved wildflowers and could tell you the names of most of the flowers or she made them up. She loved the smell of walking in the woods and seeing the wild violets, johnny jump ups, trilliums, wild orange blossom, lupine, field daisies, Queen Anne’s lace, and tiger lilies.
Pearl enjoyed making many arts and crafts. She loved embroidering Krazy Patch Work. She especially enjoyed making handouts to take to her Visiting Teaching Sisters. She always said Visiting Teaching was a great way to meet new people. Pearl loved to crochet and spent many hours making baby booties and hot pads to give as gifts.
Pearl loved to read and had a collection of Zane Grey books. She also read her scriptures daily and the Ensign from cover to cover.
Pearl loved music and could play the piano by ear. She could also play the Ukulele and the Guitar and the Harmonica. She enjoyed singing and participated in many church choirs. She could even yodel.
She loved to visit and play with her 10 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.
