Peggy L. LeDoux

The first six years of her life home was on 140th St., Compton, California. Her family moved to Waldorf Dr in Lynwood, California when she was 6 years old and she lived in the house with her sisters until she married. Peggy was closest to Rosemary and Nancy. Peggy use to tell her baby sister Nancy to tell Rosemary she was pretty…then say yeah pretty ugly.

She attended Mark Twain Elementary School; she liked to jump rope and ride her bike. She was a Bluebird. Peggy’s childhood best friend and maid-of-honor in her marriage to her first husband Rick, was Janice Hunley.

Peggy attended Lynwood High School where she also got her GED.

Peggy’s motherhood started at 15 years old. Although she was young, she thrived on being a mother and that is what fulfilled her life. She had 4 children with Rick before he passed away. After that, she and her 4 children moved back with her family on Waldorf Drive.

Peggy married Jim Cheely in the late 60’s and her sister Nancy was her Maid of Honor. Jim, Peggy, her 4 children and their daughter Jessica then moved to Buena Park where Margaret was born. They then moved to Portland, Oregon where Jim had a job as an iron worker and where Celina was born.

Her life in Oregon was as a housewife and mother until alcoholism took over her life. She graduated from Raliegh Hills but continued to struggle with her disease over the course of her adult life. In 1995, she and daughter Celina moved to Arizona where she met and married Ray Torge. They divorced and soon after, she missed her family and moved north to Washington where she fell in love with and married her soul mate, Terrence LeDoux (PaPa Terry). They settled in Vancouver. Their life together was too short. Anyone that knew them could tell they were meant for each other, she had never been happier. Together, their hobbies were landscaping their large backyard, swimming in their pool, relaxing in their hot tub, having family over for bbqs and redecorating the house they made a home.

In 2008 she was diagnosed with liver cancer but that didn’t slow her down or stop her from anything. She continued her favorite activities with a vengeance as she had a new deadline. She was strong willed and liked to do things her way. It was hard for her to accept and act like she was dying. She had too much to do to lay down and give up. A new project always meant a trip to the store, where she could fulfill one of her other favorite activities, shopping. Her children were always there to help carry out her latest projects and give their support to her. She was never alone.

While she was battling her disease, Terry was also diagnosed with liver cancer and unexpectedly passed away after surgery. Peggy’s struggle to retain her life as it was before. With the constantly increasing medications she was no longer able to hold on to her independence. With her children by her side she was able to wrap up her final projects in March and move to Arizona with her youngest daughter, Celina, for the remainder of her days. Peggy was able to celebrate Easter with her family before she silently passed on with three of her children by her side.

Peggy survived her husband, Terrence LeDoux; parents, Russell and Margaret Griffith; two older brothers, Joe Griffith and Bill Griffith; one older sister Marilyn Solum. She is survived by an older sister Rosemary Clark of Anza, California and a younger sister Nancy Barry of Tustin, California; seven children, Richard Oliver (Kelly) of Pahrump, Nevada, David Oliver (Liz) of Beaverton, Oregon, Julie Sampson of Tacoma, Washington, Robert Oliver (Heather) of Oregon City, Oregon, Jessica Cheely of Milwaukie, Oregon, Margaret Franzoza (Danny) of Kennewick, Washington and Celina Ells (Nick) of Gilbert, Arizona; and twenty two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Peggy’s maternal grandparents were Joseph and Bessie Mudd of Yakima, Washington her paternal grandparents were Clifford and Maggie Griffith of Pittsfield, Illinois.

Peggy Lou LeDoux (born Margaret Lucille Griffith) passed away from liver cancer on April 30, 2011 in Celina Ells’ home in Gilbert, Arizona. She was 64 years old.
