Ray attended Benjamin Franklin High School and later went to Portland Community College. While in high school, Ray started working at Safeway and continued to work there until 2015. He worked in a variety of positions during the ten years he spent working at Safeway, but most of his time was used in the meat department.
In Ray’s free time, he enjoyed building computers and playing computer games. He was also an avid fan of Star Trek, watching all of the series and movies. On game days, you could find Ray rooting for the Green Bay Packers and the Portland Trailblazers. He also enjoyed simple things such as spending time with his family, beloved pets and cherished friends.
Ray will be remembered for having a heart of gold and taking pleasure in the little things in life. He was caring, light-hearted, freely laughed and just as easily made other laugh. You could never find a complait from Ray about any misfortune or pain and he was always ready and willing to lend an ear when someone needed to talk. Being as selfless as he was, he was always willing to help his family with anything they needed and he made all feel special by remembering the small details.
Ray is survived by his mother, Nancy Meek; two sisters, Stefhanie McLaughlin of Tigard (Stewart) and Rebecca Dotson of Washougal, WA (David); two nieces, Nyssa Dotson and Ryssa Dotson and one nephew, David Dotson Jr.
Ray will be cremated and his final resting place will reside in the indoor mausoleum at Lincoln Memorial Park.
Please join family and friends at the East Portland Community Center on Sunday, Spetember 18th at 2:00pm for a celebration of life and a spaghetti dinner, one of Ray's favorites. Please feel free to bring a potluck style side dish that Ray would have liked.
