Ray grew up on a farm in Idaho. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. Ray married Mary shortly thereafter, and in 1967 they made their choice to serve God. After they had three children, Ray earned his Associates degree in nursing from Boise State, obtained his Family Nurse Practitioner credentials in Arkansas, ran various rural health clinics in Idaho and Oregon, and finished his nursing career working in occupational health in the oil industry in Bakersfield, California. His love and passion for healthcare led his 2 daughters, and 4 grandchildren to follow in his footsteps. Ray was committed to a life of learning, teaching, and helping others.
Ray loved being a Papa, and is remembered best by his grandchildren for his humor, story telling, playful spirit and his “Papa Ray Scent” of cologne and a touch of hairspray.

Two years ago I was asked to be one of Rays helpers , At the time he was a man of few words but his smile and eyes would say it all, my favorite memories are of our walks to the park where we would have a snack and sit and watch the little ones play, Sitting on the front porch watching people and cars go by , That first year we was able to take Ray and Mary out to see the Christmas lights , I soon learned he had a sweet tooth and his two favorite things was chocolate and peanut butter and ice cream anytime ❤️
