Becky was the oldest of three children born to Bill and Myrtle. Ken Wichert and Marie Sapp (nee, Wichert) are Becky’s surviving siblings along with their spouses, Joyce and Bob respectively. Becky grew up in a farming family. Bill and Myrtle were dairy farmers. Becky was no stranger to “farm life” and the hard work it demanded. Everyone in the family was expected to pitch in, and they did. One of the values that Becky carried throughout her life which she learned early on was to work hard and fulfill responsibilities – do your part.
After graduating from Centralia High School in 1951, Becky attended Southern California Bible College in Costa Mesa, California. (Now Vanguard University). She returned home after one year. She then moved to Seattle where she went to work for the phone company.
After a time in Seattle, she moved to Portland where she lived with family members while she got her feet under her. She began attending First Assembly of God church in 1956. There she was introduced to Edward “Ed” Walker by a mutual friend. They were married June 22, 1957.
Becky and Ed had two children – Dale (Sheila) and Karen (Thomas, "Tom")– and four grandchildren - Caitlin, Tommy, Grant and Matthew – and nine great-grandchildren.
For most of her career, Becky worked as an administrative assistant supporting a sales team of insurance agents at both Prudential and Nationwide. She retired from Nationwide in 1997.
Becky loved gardening. Her flower and vegetable gardens in the backyard of their home in SE Portland were lovingly tended. Even at age 90 and before they moved from SE Portland to Oregon City, she could still be found outside in the summer evenings tending her garden.
Becky was a gifted homemaker. She knew how to make a house a home. She was also known for her baking skills. (Her chocolate meringue pie was Ed’s favorite).
Later in life, Becky to up the craft of card making. She brightened the day of many family members and friends by giving to them a hand-made card.
Becky and Ed both loved their church, First Assembly of God, now Portland Christian Center. Over the years, they served in various ministries at the church. To this day, they still have many loyal friendships that were forged over the years.
Becky was an amazing wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a good friend to many. She was quiet and unassuming but knew how to leave a word of encouragement at just the right moment or add a comment of wit. She will be missed but we rejoice knowing that she has joined those family and friends that have gone before her and are now in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
