

Richard Ellis Hollingsworth of West Linn, Oregon was born July 21, 1929 in Melrose, Montana. Dick, as he was known to his friends, was born to Richard Lee and Jane Hollingsworth. The family resided in Coulee Dam, Washington where Richard worked on the building of the Grand Coulee Dam. Dick graduated from Coulee Dam High School and began his college career at Eastern Washington State College in Cheney, Washington lettering in Basketball. Dick met his wife, Nelletta Faye Warnecke and married in 1951. Dick joined the U.S. Marines making his way to Korea in 1952. Dick concluded his service career a Marine Captain and returned from Korea to conclude his education to graduate from Washington State University in Hotel Management. After a short stint in Fairbanks Alaska, Dick and Nell Moved to Aberdeen, Washington to begin his career with Shell Oil Company where he worked for over 40 years.
Dick was a wonderful husband to Nell Hollingsworth for 64 years and an amazing father to Michael Hollingsworth, Karen Peterson and Neal Hollingsworth. Dick’s passion was golf. He played every Saturday beginning at 6:00am saying it was the perfect time and why not, "it never rains on the golf course". As a grandfather to Paul and August Peterson and Camille Hollingsworth, Dick made sure he had time for his grand kids swimming, soccer and of course, golf. Dick is a past President of Tualitan Valley Workshop, Charbonneau Golf Club and a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church. Dick is survived by his daughter Karen Peterson, son Neal (Kathy) Hollingsworth, his grand children, brother Robert (Sharon) Hollingsworth, nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Estera and Ted Campan at Campan Care Home for their commitment to the well being of Dick and Nell over the past six years.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home Chapel, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR, on Monday March 20th at noon. A committal ceremony with military honors will follow at Skyline memorial Apostles Garden.
