Richard John Martin

Richard Martin passed away on January 9, 2015 at his home in Oregon City, OR after a long struggle with illnesses. He was born on November 5, 1931 in Oregon City to parents John and Ellen Martin. He was raised in Colton, Oregon and graduated from Colton HS in 1949. Richard served in the US Navy and worked for 33 years for ESCO, primarily as a welder.

In 1955, Richard married Joan (Friton) and together they shared almost 60 years of marriage. Richard was a loving and encouraging man, who was friends with everyone. He loved to fish, but was a hard worker who never complained, no matter how hard life got. Richard always looked for the good in everyone and everything. He was a strong man, good provider, wonderful father and faithful husband. He will be missed by many.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home at 11:30am; committal service to follow at Willamette National Cemetery. Richard is survived by his wife Joan Martin; children Melinda (Don Ashley and John Martin; grandchildren Jennifer Ellis and Ryan Ellis, step grandchildren Nicole Ashley, Natalie Stoner, and Trevyn Ashley; great-grandson Brandon Ellis, step great-grandchildren Allen Jennings, Emily Jennings, and Trenton Ashley; brother Melvin Martin, and sister Mary Lou Welch.
