Richard Rick "Rick" E. Phelps

As a young man, Rick enjoyed skiing, fishing, and camping. In fact, he started skiing when he was only eight years old. In high school, he participated in sports such as foot ball and baseball. He graduated in 1977 from Benson High School.

Following high school, Rick pursued his higher education at the University of Oregon. He received his Bachelor Degree in Political Science with a minor in architecture in 1983.

Rick dabbled a little in restaurant management before settling into his niche as a factory representative in sales for several different distributors. He was also on the Mount Hood Ski Patrol for over 18 years, and spent many happy hours on the slopes of the mountain he loved from his youth. He served on the Board of the Reynold’s School District, and was even elected back into the position for subsequent terms.

In 1997 Rick exchanged wedding vows with Tanya Matthews in Portland, OR. The couple had two children, Hannah and Alex. Rick cherished his children, and often displayed how proud he was of them.

In his later years, Rick continued to participate in skiing and many other outdoor activities. He enjoyed hunting, water and jet skiing with his family, and teasing his sister. He loved the mountain, and took every opportunity he could to hit the slopes. He also enjoyed traveling. Favorite vacations include trips to Hawaii, Disney World, and Disney Land.

Rick passed away on February 17, 2011 in Portland, surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held at 12pm, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes. Visitation will be from 10am to 5pm, Monday, February 21, 2011 and 9am to 11am, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in Skyline Memorial Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Tanya; children, Hannah and Alex; sister, Dianne Livesay; and brother-in-law, Bob Livesay. Rick will be most remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
