Richard Lee Sutton, 60, of Portland, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013. He was born on May 10, 1953 in Tillamook, Oregon. Richard was one in a million. You could search the corners of the Earth and not find another man like him. He was a loving son, a supportive brother, a proud grandfather, and a dedicated father. His love spread far beyond his family. Richard enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, rafting and landscaping. He was very much an outdoorsmen.
There was never a time too inconvenient, or a problem too large, that Richard wouldn't come to the rescue; bring all the tools in his toolchest and a shoulder to lean on. His happy demeanor would light up a room, he was quick with a joke, and was rarely found without a glowing smile on his face.
Dad, you will be missed. Hailie would sing songs to dad that she had learned through school . He would have the biggest smile on his face, listening to her sing and dance. It always ended with the joyful chuckle he’d frequently give. What a beautiful sound. Since he’s passed I cannot get that sound out of my head.
It’s hard to think that you were in a lot of pain, though we all know you were. How easily it would have been for you to be grumpy and bitter, but you weren’t. I mean you were the absolute opposite of that! You were the first one around to help anyone in need. Whether it was looking at a car, giving someone a ride or just being a listening ear… you were always willing to help.
It is so comforting to know that he left us in good spirits. I’m so glad I was able to spend a lot of time with him and have fun with him. We all went rafting together twice last summer; we went camping to celebrate my sobriety. That was a fun trip. Dad, you were able to witness me getting my fist deer just a couple of weeks ago. It is amazing that these things were able to happen when they did. I am so thankful for that. You will be greatly missed. ~Your son, Brady.
Richard is survived by his sons: Jason, Casey, and Joseph Brady Sutton; his grandson General James Wayne Sutton; his mother Frances Bowles; his sisters: Debbie Purcella, Cheryl Beck, and Pam Jacoby; 7 nephews; 11 nieces; 3 great nephews; and 6 great nieces.
A Celebration of Richard's Life will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 11:00am at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Portland..
