

Weigel, Richard 74 Sept. 29, 1940 May 06, 2015 Dick Weigel, a longtime Portland resident, has left us for a better place. Dick, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Weigel, was born and raised in Portland. He attended Holy Redeemer grade school, Central Catholic High School and the University of Oregon. At Oregon, Dick served as the president of the University Book Store, was a member of the U of O Student Cabinet, the Rally Squad and the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He graduated from the School of Business Administration in 1962. Dick was a successful entrepreneur, establishing his own accounting business in his 20s. For the majority of his career, he was a respected general contractor and real estate developer. Dick was a leader in the Portland Catholic Youth Organization, helping to reinvigorate Camp Howard, CYO Football and CYO Basketball. He coached basketball for over 40 years, establishing the largest state-wide CYO tournament in the country and sending several players on to play in college. Dick was preceded in death with the passing of his son, David. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Charles); sons, Donald, Greg, Frank and Sean Matlock; and six grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 7007 S.W. 46th Ave., Portland. Donations in Dick's honor may be made to Catholic Youth Organization Scholarship Fund, 825 N.E. 20th Ave., Portland, OR 97232.
