

Bob Hales was born October 20, 1936 in St. Helens, Oregon to Alonzo and Elsie Hales. The youngest of 11 children, Bob grew up loving the farm life and family. He died peacefully on March 22, 2016, at the age of 79, with family at his side.
He graduated from Scappoose High School in 1955 and promptly joined the Air Force. Bob served 4 years active duty and 4 years reserved duty as a mechanic. Upon discharge he returned to Scappoose.
On June 25th, 1965, Bob married the love of his life and neighbor, Carol Avaline Tarbell. Bob and Carol were active parts of the St. Helens and Scappoose community where they raised their two children, Robert (Bobby) and Barbara.
In 1992, Bob retired from Boise Cascade paper mill. He enjoyed talking on his CB radio; where he was known as “the Frozen Rain Drop”. Bob enjoyed gardening, camping and was involved in the Warren Grange and Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Hales; son, Robert Hales and his siblings, Alice Hales, John Hales, Raymond Hales, Everette Hales, Matie Hales Bracey, Frances Hales Tarbell, Richard Hales, Eugene Hales and Ken Hales.
Bob is survived by his sister, Ruby Hales Miller, daughter Barbara Hales Ritenour, daughter-in-law Mary Brand Hales and his grandchildren Heather Hales, Katie Hales, Sandra Hales and Isaac Ritenour, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Donations in his honor may be given to Meals on Wheels. A Memorial Service will be held at Columbia River Foursquare Church, 555 Commons Drive, St. Helens, OR 97051 on May 21st, 2016 at 11am. A Pot luck lunch will be provided immediately following.
