

Robert Dale Haney, 82, passed away at home on February 14 in Portland. Dale was born and raised in Battle Ground, Washington to Eugene and Pearl (Courtion). His brother Don was two years older, his father died when Dale was ten years old, after which he lived with his maternal grandparents in nearby Brush Prairie for a couple of years. He played varsity football and baseball in high school.
He attended Clark Junior College in Vancouver for one year where he played football and basketball. The following year he transferred to his beloved Washington State University where he graduated with honors in 1960. He attended the University of Oregon Dental School for two years before voluntarily dropping out to pursue other interests. Dale was a successful Real Estate Investor- owning numerous rental units in the Portland area. Dale coached youth athletics: approx. 20 years of baseball at Hollywood Little League and Grant Babe Ruth; approx. 20 years of CYO basketball at All Saints Parrish and 1 year of CYO football at Holy Redeemer Parrish.
He met the love of his life- a real estate escrow closer, Kay Nancy (McCoun) Shoemaker whom he married in 1965 and lived happily ever after- 55 years and running. They raised three children: Mike, Rick, and Cindy. They had eight grandchildren: Jimmy, deceased; Matt, Brittany, Ty, Kayla, Kyndra, Ethan and Kylie, and two great-grandchildren: Derek and Lucas.
He will be missed by everyone lucky enough to have known him, especially his beloved cat Gus.
