July 1, 1960 – May 27, 2018
Our beloved Bob passed away surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, May 27,, 2018 from a long-term illness.
Bob was born to loving parents, Jack and Francie Valder at St. Vincent’s Hospital on July 1, 1960. He joined sister Janet and was followed by sisters Glenna and Diane. He would talk about the many memories of his younger years in the 67nd house and the many later years at the Davis house. He loved and admired his sisters and was always so proud to be their brother. He graduated from Reynold’s High School in Troutdale, Oregon in 1979 where he made numerous lifelong friends.
He joined the Marine Corp in 1979 and was proud of his service as an MP, which gave him a source of stories from his times at Twenty Nine Palms and in Japan. During his time in the military, he trained in Advanced SWAT and MP schools and received decorations in Rifle Marksmanship and Pistol Sharpshooting. He returned home to work for 17 years for Oregon Mobile Refinishing as an electrostatic painter. After OMR, he dedicated his life to the care of their homes, the needs of his wife and both sets of parents. Another source of numerous stories he would like to tell in his wise cracking sarcastic way!
He married his wife Juanita (Altig) on September 23, 1992 in Reno, NV and again on July 8, 1995 at St. Anne’s in a Catholic Ceremony. They shared a common response when they bantered, “That’s why I married you” the other replied with “twice.” Theirs was a relationship of love, respect and romance in good and bad times. Bob so enjoyed being with and loving his family. Family was everything to him. His mother Francie was his constant, be it as a dice partner or as a secret smoking buddy. He loved her so. He cared so deeply about Juanita's parents as well. He adored his nieces and nephews and had special bonds with each and every one of them. Bob and Juanita enjoyed car trips and traveled a lot together. They enjoyed Reno, Vegas, New Orleans, Hawaii, Boston, Mexico, California, Arizona and a cherished trip to England and France. He enjoyed his Raiders, time and conversations with his close buddies, his cats, reading, TV, playing games, movies and movie lines, his compound bow, target shooting, time with his wife’s work friends at events, finding the perfect joke at the perfect time just to hear people laugh and having conversations around politics that never seemed to agree with the trend. He described himself in writings to his wife, as an “ordinary man, with a good nature, able, dependable, kind, sharing, hardworking, smart and with common sense, an avid observer of mankind, relaxed, fun and all that funny stuff too.”
His father, John Valder, preceded Bob in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita, his mother Frances Valder, sisters Janet Valder, Glenna Griffiths and Diane Patricio, in-laws, Duane and Lucy Altig, brothers and sisters-in-law John Griffiths, Jim Patricio, Louis and Sally Altig, Julian Altig, Duane and Michelle Altig, Dean and Kim Altig and Lucia and Epi Jimenez, his many nieces and nephews and those who called him “Uncle Bob.”
Services have been arranged for June 8, 2018 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. followed at 1:00 pm Interment at Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery with military honors and a reception at their home.
