Roger Morris Mitchell, Jr was born on Jan. 8, 1970 to Roger Morris Mitchell Sr. & Carolyn J. Mitchell. He was nicknamed Pumpkin by his grandmother who said he looked like a little pumpkin when he was brought home.
He was a very industrial little boy. He walked early and understood everything. He was very smart. All through school, he was always the first in his class to learn anything that was taught. He was a little on the shy side and somewhat standoffish, but when he was around people he knew and liked, you had to wait your turn to talk.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He later went to two computer schools, scored many Academic awards, and graduated first in his class. He worked numerous jobs over the years and ended up working for Tri-Met, which was his current job. It was a job we can say he truly loved.
His hobbies were all kinds of building: boats, cars and airplanes. This is what he liked to do in his spare time. His other favorite thing to do was cooking. Boy, are we going to miss that! He could really throw down. Like his mom, he had a real love for music. He liked the back in the day stuff. He also loved to play dominos, spades, and poker with his friends or a good game of pool.
Roger had a great love for pit bull puppies, which he raised like kids. Their bond was so close, the dogs knew when he was coming home from work. Bella would wait by the front door for him to come home. She’s still waiting, which is why we brought her here today, so she could see him and say good-bye.
Roger will be sorely missed. He was Carolyn’s first born and will always remain in her heart. He’s resting now and not struggling to breathe. His last wish on his Facebook page was for all his friends and family to please get vaccinated as that was his plan when he got out of the hospital. So please, please people, don’t let it be too late! Get your shot and live. Because this could have been prevented. God Bless you All.
Roger’s grandparents, both maternal and paternal preceded him in death. As did his father, Roger Morris Mitchell, Sr., and his stepfather, Remus Jackson.
He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Jackson of Gresham, OR; brother, Jeff Mitchell of Gresham, OR; sister, Janet; sister, Tiffany N. Bradford; sister, Katrina Spears of Chicago, Ill; sister, Sureeta Mitchell of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 children, Terris Warnsley of Chicago, Ill and Imani Williams of Portland, OR; 4 nephews, 5 nieces and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and very dear friends. Also his very special friend who he loved dearly, Cindy. As well as his beloved dog, Bella.
