

Ruth Adeline (Hutchinson) Hitchcock was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was born in Spokane, Washington, January 19, 1930 to Agnes and Hugh Hutchinson. She was 5th of 7 children. Ruth grew up in Spokane, Washington; she attended Arlington Elementary school and graduated from John R. Rogers High School.
During her teenage years, Ruth babysat, worked at The Fern Ice Cream Parlor and at the credit union in Spokane. As a young adult she moved to Portland and worked at Sandy’s Camera Shop. Ruth and her aunt, hand-colorized black and white photos for customers in the evenings.
Ruth lived in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, with her aunt and met the boy next door. After getting to know each other, Jim and Ruth married in 1952 and soon started their family, which grew over the next 15 years. Their children include Joyce Cooper (Hal) of Lake Oswego, Karen Palaganas (Armando, deceased) of Guam/Philippines, Shirley Hitchcock of Campbell, CA, Greg Hitchcock of Lake Oswego (deceased), Adel Adams (Mike) of Belton, SC, and Nancy Hitchcock (Eric) of Portland. They were blessed with 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
When her youngest started school, Ruth worked for Tualatin-Tigard School district food service; as server, award-winning cook, and manager.
Ruth was a kind, loving woman. She loved time spent with family and her church family. She loved God and looked forward to the day when she would meet Him. She was a skilled seamstress, painter, photographer and cook. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren. Family gatherings were always something she looked forward to. Her greatest love was for her Husband, Jim. Their 64 years of marriage was filled with love and laughter. Ruth will be greatly missed by all that knew her and her memory will live on for years.
On Thursday, March 26th, Ruth went home to be with her Heavenly Father and her family members who have gone before her.
A Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at River West Church, 2000 Country Club Road, Lake Oswego, on Friday, April 10th at 2:00 p.m.
Ruth will be privately laid to rest at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
