She was born in Burlington, Colorado on February 16, 1921, the only child of William and Anna Holmgren.
Ruth attended, and graduated from Pueblo High School and married Wiley Glover Ladd in 1938.
After marriage, Ruth provided for her family as a homemaker and worked as a retail sales clerk at Meier & Frank, Olds & King, Rhodes, and Liberty House in the Gateway shopping mall.

She also had a passion for everything that required needles and thread and yarn. She sewed, quilted, knitted, crocheted, embroidered, tatted, and worked needlepoint. While employed at Rhodes/ Liberty House she worked in the yarn department and was very proud of the fact that knitters came from far and wide for instructions and knitting help from her.
