Always thinking of others, this guy... 

Sam is a true disciple of what Jesus taught- Charity.  And without  charity we are nothing.  Thanks for being an example to me my friend. You will be missed.

Sam and I saw each other around Christmas every year, for maybe a week or 2. Then we didn't see each other for another year. Yet he was always keeping in touch with me throughout the year.

It never failed, he was always texting me throughout the year with gems like this...

Dearest family & friends of Sam...
My heart goes out to you all at this time of sorrow for the loss of an incredible human.  

I am sad that I won't receive his annual texts around the holidays wishing me well or reminding me that it was time to set up Christmas lights again. I am sad that we won't be able to reunite in awe again, around his 8' tall christmas wreaths that he painstakingly assembled for days on end. I am sad that it will be too long before I get to embrace my favorite genius interior/exterior designer again. 

Sam and I spent long winter days together making sure our clients were "dialed in" when it came to their Christmas decor.  I could always count on his dimpled smile, positive outlook (despite the grim weather conditions), and warm hug everytime we saw each other, regardless the circumstances.   

Sam is kind, thoughtful selfless, loving, patient, empathetic and gracious.   I am a better person because of my friendship with Sam. And although I will miss our times together in the future,  I am oh so grateful for our memories together of years past.  

He is, guaranteed, in a happier place than here, but I'm sure he still feels guilty that he left us all without saying his goodbyes... (He was never one to hurt someone's feelings!).  (It's okay Sam, we'll see you again, my friend!)

So, for those of us left in his absence... let's raise a toast in his honor; to the goodness he taught us by his example, the charity he shared thru his love and service to others, and by his happy optimistic attitude that we could all better emulate in our own lives. CHEERS to you Sam!!  Until we meet again my friend!

Sam was a wonderful character with a memorable sense of humor. We worked together in merchandising at Norm Thompson. I will always remember his laugh and smiling face. Like no other..he will be missed.

I don’t think you quite knew what you meant to me. Your positive spirit and sweet messages always brightened my day. Thank you for the constant check ins and always telling me how proud you were. I will miss you. Until we meet again.

I met Sammy more than 50 years ago in Wiggins, Colorado when my mom got her first teaching job there, teaching art.  My mom, sister Paige and I were trying to adjust to small-town life after living in Denver.  Our first friend was Sammy and we loved him so dearly.  He spent a lot of time at our house and loved to listen to Karen Carpenter.  After graduation, I moved back to Denver and Sammy was there too.  We had many wonderful adventures over the years and always kept in touch after he moved to Oregon.  Sammy had a loving heart, a quick wit and a million dollar smile.  And oh! those dimples!  I will love and miss him forever

I knew Sammy for 60 years. He was a wonderful & fun guy. He'd send quirky text messages that made me laugh. When I called he always answered the phone "Hola, Janetcita." I will really, really  miss him.

I was saddened to hear about Sam. We met Sam through my brother in law and sister when we would visit Portland from New Mexico. Sam helped our family with caring for my mom one evening during a wedding in our family. He was so caring and good to her. I will never forget his willingness to help others. Rest in peace sweet Sam

Memories of my brother Samuel John Alvarado.  When he came to our house for the holidays he was always the center of  attention  with his clownish ways. He always had everyone’s  attention with his silly remarks.  He would push the sleigh at Christmas, Gobble the turkey at Thanksgiving. Every time he was down to Colorado we’d all get together at my house and eat , sleep and have fun. He was always the center of attention in his loving ways. Sam is survived by four  brothers Phillip . Adolfo, Steven, and Roberto and two sistersNancy and Corina being the youngest of the family  and of course our father Abelino Alvarado who now is 101 years of age soon to be 102 in January. Usually when Sam would ask me “ how’s Benny doing?” Sam would send Dad everything from shoes to jeans. We all thought Dad would be the first to leave us but it was Our beloved brother Samuel. Sam we’ll be missing you for  long time cause you are much loved. I miss you so much brother! I will love you always …Nancy

Sam and I met in Eugene Oregon in the early 
80’s and became lifelong close friends we were each other’s “brother from another mother “.Sam was always there when I needed his comforting hugs and words to 
get through some tough times,a man who spread his warmth to everyone he met.
