Having spent time in Kenya, Stephaine settled in Portland, where she became a distinguished state and national leader in vocational rehabilitation. Her ground breaking work centered on creating opportunities for people with disabilities, including psychiatric disabilities, to live and work independently.
Stephaine was best known for her quilts, which she designed, hand sewed, and exhibited, receiving a number of awards for her dazzling creations. She was also an adventurous traveler, visiting India, Egypt and China, to name a few. She loved cooking and family history and was in the process of finishing a family cookbook called, Food Is Memory.
Stephaine is survived by her children, Jennifer and Christopher, her granddaughter, Esme, her nephew Drae, and her twin brother, Stephen Parrish.
Services will be held Saturday, November 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Zeller Chapel of the Roses, 2107 NE Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to OPB and OR Commission for the Blind Donations Fund.
