Verne was born in Columbus Montana on August 9, 1935 and moved to the Portland area with his family in 1944. Verne graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1954. In 1976, Verne married Lillian Lowry in Portland Oregon, joining Lill's family of four daughters. He was very proud of each of his step-daughters and their families.
Verne worked as a mail carrier for U.S. Postal Service for 31 years, retiring in 1990.
Verne loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed cars and motorcycles working on both in his garage shop and at home. Some of Verne's happiest memories were made with the members of the Mt. Scott Motorcycle club. He loved to share stories and photos of their rides, collect t-shirts, memorabilia and jackets from the club and was especially touched when so many members came to celebrate with Verne on his 90th birthday in August.
Among his friends and neighbors, Verne was known for his good sense of humor - he was never without a helping hand, a good story or a cold beer to share with friends.
Verne is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lillian, his younger brother David and his brother-in-law Jim.
He is survived by his sister Vina, his step-daughters, Cynthia, Debra, Belinda, Becky, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A small graveside service will be held at 11 AM January 2nd, 2026 at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
