William Elmer Mayes

Bill was born in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York on May 11, 1941 to William and Alberta (Quinn) Mayes. The family came to Oregon when Bill was a young man, and he was a 1959 graduate of Benson Polytechnic High School. In March of 1968, Bill married Shirley Lee Moore.

Bill was hardworking and successful. He operated his own business as a pattern maker. Bill provided for his family with long hours at the shop and real estate investing.

Bill and Shirley have been snowbirds for many years – most recently in Arizona. Bill enjoyed spending time with family and was an avid golfer and tennis player.

Bill will be missed and remembered by his loving family:

His wife of over 49 years, Shirley Mayes of Happy Valley;

their children, Gregory Mayes of Happy Valley, and Nichol Holm and husband Lance of Happy Valley;

grandchildren Nicholas Holm and Claudia Holm;

and by a sister, Arlene Ogle of Lake Oswego.

Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to a veteran’s charity.
