Mr. George F. Regan, age 59 of Potsdam, New York passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he had been a patient since Tuesday the 22nd. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 10 am at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk, NY. Burial will follow the service at the Visitation Cemetery. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam on Friday, December 2nd from 2-4 and 7-9. Contributions in his memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
George is survived by his wife Susan Regan of Potsdam; his mother Loretta Sabad Regan of Norwood; a stepson Jason T. Hamblin of Utah; brothers Pat J. Regan and Kevin J. (Annette) Regan both of Potsdam and a niece and nephew Jamie and Derek Regan. He is predeceased by his father Patrick Regan and a sister Margaret A. Regan.
George F. Regan was born November 29, 1952 in Potsdam, NY to Patrick and Loretta Sabad Regan. He was a 1971 graduate of Oswego High School. He then attended SUNY Oswego and SUNY Potsdam. After college George moved to California and worked construction for ten years. Then he came back to Potsdam in the early eighties. He worked in the family business until 1991 when he created the Northland Recycling. He operated the business until selling it in 2000. He then started Potsdam Taxi and it is currently in operation. On November 29, 1986 in Norwood, NY he was married to Susan M. Nicholson.
George was very active in the Potsdam Democratic Party Committee. He served as Potsdam Village Trustee for 16 years. He retired due to his health. He was a classic movie fanatic. He had a genuine eclectic musical taste. He enjoyed Country and Western, and Rock music; especially Gram Parsons. George was a member of St. Mary’s Church and of the Potsdam Elk’s Lodge Post #2074.
