

Mr. J. Conrad “Con” Elliott, legendary North Country radio announcer and Voice of Clarkson Hockey passed away on Thursday, September 4th at the United Helpers Riverledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg, NY., with family by his side.
Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Monday from 3- 7 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, the 9th at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church, with Msgr. Robert Aucoin celebrant. Burial will follow the service at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam.
Con was born May 25, 1929 in Potsdam, NY to the late James Conrad and Mary Barnett Elliott. He was a 1947 graduate of Potsdam Central School and attended Potsdam Normal School. Con was a renowned drummer while in college, and played gigs throughout the North Country for many years. Con was the Voice of Clarkson Hockey as their play-by-play announcer from 1955-1987 and also broadcast countless high school games in the area spanning six decades. He worked for WPDM radio station for 60 plus years. During his time announcing Golden Knights Hockey, Con was considered the Dean of College Hockey Broadcasters and the Ambassador of North Country Athletics. Con got his start in broadcasting while an undergraduate at Potsdam College in 1950. Through 38 years of announcing college hockey, Con witnessed close to 1,000 Clarkson Hockey games and saw most of the Green and Gold’s great teams and great players, who skated on the Walker Arena Ice.
Con was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Potsdam Central School and Clarkson University Booster Clubs and several area high school Hall of Fames, including the Potsdam Central School Hall of Fame. He was an avid New York Yankee, Giant, Ranger, and Knicks fan. He loved being around people, especially the area’s student athletes.
Con is survived by his sister Elizabeth Leonard; nieces and nephews Howard Jennings Jr., Conrad Jennings, Mary Lynn Johnson, Tom Jennings, Mike Jennings, Sheila Guizard, Mary Catherine Leonard, Patti Thames, John Leonard, Maureen Missert, Jane Leonard and Mike Leonard; 2 special grandchildren Luke and Lexi Allen; 25 great nieces and nephews, and 8 great great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Michael Elliott; a sister Mary Jennings; brothers-in-law Howard E. Jennings Sr. and John B. Leonard Sr. and a niece Debbie Jennings Mancheno.
