

Margaret Mary Hagerty, born August 7, 1930, passed on April 17, 2026, at the age of 95. Margaret was born and raised in Lancashire, England where she lived for the first 31 years. She was very active along with her family in the Holy Trinity Parish and was also a Sunday school teacher.
In 1961, she emigrated to the United States, settling in Massachusetts. Whilst there for the next 14 years she was hostess to "Fresh Air" children, foster mother to 5 children, a Girl Scout Leader and secretary for The New England Missionary Cenacle Apostolate. She also attended Bristol College in Rhode Island.
In 1974, she married Joseph E. Hagerty with whom she spent 33 happy years then moving to Potsdam for her remaining years.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, William A. Shepherd and her mother, Angelina Shepherd. Also 2 brothers, William Paul Shepherd and John Joseph Shepherd.
Margaret leaves a daughter, Carolyn Ann Spencer of Long Island, 2 stepdaughters, Susan Hagerty of Potsdam and Jean Tincher in Mississippi. Also, a son-in-law Patrick Luppens of Potsdam and Drew Tincher of Mississippi.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army in Syracuse.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 21, 2026, 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday morning, April 22, 2026, 11:00am at St. Mary's Church, Potsdam, NY. Father Scott Belina, officiating.
