Mr. Ronald J. LaPoint, age 82 of Potsdam, NY passed away at his daughter’s residence in the town of Potsdam on June 8th. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 9:30am until 10:30. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church at 10:45 am with Rev. Stephen Rocker celebrant. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Ronald is survived by his daughter Roxanne and Ron Kilgore, grandchildren Ron and Denianne Kilgore, Courtney Kilgore and Garrett Kilgore. Two great grandchildren and a brother Leo LaPoint and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife Joan LaPoint, his parents, sisters Eleanor Barry, Beverly Lozo, Norma Atkinson, Barbara Baxter, brothers Stanley, Robert and Donald.
Ronald was born March 3, 1937, son of Homer and Harriet Jerome LaPoint. He attended Potsdam High School. Ronald served in the US Army from 1960 - 1962. He was married to his wife of 61 years, Joan C. Brunet on June 23, 1956. Ronald retired from Alcoa after 25 years. He was a member of the Potsdam VFW. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, summer camp and card games with his family.
