Brenda’s battle with cancer came to an end on April 30, 2026. She was 78 years old.
Brenda was born to Jim and Helen Golden on December 6, 1947.
She was the oldest of three children. She grew up in Autaugaville, Alabama among family and friends.
She graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree. After graduation she went to work for the State of Alabama as a keypunch operator.
She later became an accountant with the State and retired after over 25 years of service.
She was known for her stubborn yet caring personality and for her passionate love of animals. She was our own Dr. Dolittle. Caring for and raising not only domestic animals such as dogs, cats, chickens, cows, and horses but also guinea fowl, turkeys, deer, ducks, wild baby birds and even baby opossums. Nothing was ever turned away. She was also a very talented artist.
She had a generous heart and always chose to see the good in people until she was given a reason not to and then you didn’t want to “poke the bear”.
She never grasp the impact she had on so many people’s lives. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In our hearts, she lives on, and we will forever honor the legacy of a remarkable woman who made a lasting impact on everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Helen Golden; brother, Ralph Golden and sister, Lydia Anderson.
She is survived by her daughter, Melody Cogburn; nephew, Tanner Golder (Emily); great granddaughters, Mia Schofield and Addilyn Johnson and grandson, Myles Johnson.
Brenda requested no services be held and that her ashes be spread in a small private gathering. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter.
