

SANFORD, Charlie, Douglas “Doug”, 85, a longtime Prattville resident, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010. Graveside funeral services with U.S. Navy Honors will be held tomorrow Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Ed Henne officiating, according to Ridout’s Prattville Chapel. Mr. Sanford was born on July 23, 1925, in Columbus, Georgia to the late H.G. (Sr.) and Nellie Crouch Sanford. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was retired from Standard Forge and Axle Company with over forty-five years of service. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary, and a brother, H.G. Sanford, Jr., he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Steiner and Bonnie Sanford, James and Pat Sanford, Larry and Susan Sanford; one sister, Fannie Surles, six grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. Flowers are appreciated or a memorial contribution may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 100 East Fourth Street, Prattville, Alabama 36067. The family would like to extend a special word of thanks to Sonya Pedan and the physicians and staffs of the Prattville Baptist Hospital and the Prattville Health and Rehab facility for care, kindness, friendship to Mr. Sanford. Visitation will be held this evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
