Gail Russell Koenig

Gail Russell Koenig, 85, passed away Tuesday,12/19/23 in Lauderdale County, AL. She was predeceased by her husband, Garland Christian Koenig; parents, William Russell & Fleda Lambert Russell; dearest friend, Bill Turner; siblings, William Russell, Norton Russell & Dianne Russell. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Olive (Jeff); son, Shawn Koenig (Lisa); stepdaughters, Christina Hall (Neal) and Kimi Sheppard(Chris); grandchildren, Alex Koenig (Keri), Krista Evans, Josh Evans; great Grandchild, Julian Koenig and a host of very loved nieces and nephews and their children.

Gail was born April 30, 1938 and raised in Shelby County, Alabama; but spent most of her life as a military wife, making sure her children always understood that home was where your heart was, while her husband served both overseas and stateside in the Air Force and Army. And though she loved the life of travel that came with military life, after her husband’s retirement, they landed in Prattville and that has been her home for the last 45 years. She retired from her job at the Community College of the Air Force and also later retired from her a job as a medical transcriptionist at Baptist Hospital South. After retirement she spent many years as a volunteer at Baptist Medical Center Prattville. She was kind with an always positive outlook, funny and one definitely never had to wonder what was on her mind. She was the most wonderful mother, and her kind and loving heart left a beacon of light for her friends and loved ones.

A visitation for Gail will be held Friday, December 22, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ridout's-Brown-Service Prattville Chapel, 347 East Main Street, Prattville, AL 36067. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:30 PM at Prattville Memorial Gardens, 841 Fairview Ave, Prattville, AL 36066.
