

Herman Free, 87, of Prattville, Alabama and a former Selma resident, passed away Wednesday March 22, 2017. Visitation was Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Hunting Ridge Church of God in Prattville followed by a Celebration of Life service at 4:00 PM with Rev. Stephen Smith and Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Free was born on May 30, 1929 near Greenville, Alabama to the late Jessie Oliver Free and Viola Tye Free. He worked for 33 years as a line foreman for Pioneer Electric in Selma. He enjoyed outdoor activities including gardening, hunting, fishing and camping.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Rigdon Free, a son Nelson Free and a granddaughter Jennifer Free. He is survived by a son Philip (Diane) Free of Prattville; a daughter Deborah (Dale) Barrett of Deatsville; a daughter in law, Macilla (Bill) Wild , five grandchildren, Jason (Latriece) Free, Heather (Jamall) Smith, Eric (Christy) Free, Brandon (Valerie) Barrett, Jeremy (Crystal) Free; thirteen great grandchildren; a brother Lenard (Annie Lou) Free; two sisters Mae (Jake) Caver, Ann (Orville) Hudson and a host of nieces, nephews other family members and close friends.
Pallbearers will be Jason Free, Jeremy Free, Brandon Barrett, Jamall Smith, Eric Free, Derek Rigdon, Sidney Rigdon and Tommy Missildine.
