Sadly, Wayne lost his life to cancer on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 10:55pm. He is survived by his beloved brother, Ronald Dunn and his family and a daughter, Kimberly of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario., also his wife/partner/friend of 38 years, Carron, and her siblings; Yvonne McEachern, Shirley (Harold) Turner, Jim (Pearl) Boyce and their families, all of whom loved him dearly. He had 2 step children, Tracy (Shaun) Proutt, Darren Smith (Janeen) and 5 step grandchildren; Ryan, Kim, Amy, Avery-Anna, and Tristan, all of Winnipeg, MB., as well as many nieces and nephews . Wayne was born on Friday, August 13, 1940 in Sault Ste. Marie (hence the nickname “Lucky”) and raised in Sudbury, ONT while spending a lot of time in the “Soo” with relatives. He was very athletic as a boy and young man, active in hockey, baseball, boxing, curling and bowling. He joined the army at age 16, stationed in Kingston, ONT. Royal Can. Electrical, Mechanical Engineers Unit, his service including training to become a Phys. Ed. Instructor. After honorable discharge in 1959, he worked as a laborer, plumbers helper and pipefitting apprentice, earned his journeyman’s ticket in 1970, and was employed by Algoma Steel in the Soo until 1973, all the while participating in sports: curling, baseball and golf. He moved to Prince George that year where he worked as a pipefitter/steamfitter at Canfor (Northern Pulp and timber) for 32 ½ years throughout which time he remained involved in recreational sports with co-workers. He retired in 2005 and has since enjoyed frequenting the golf links of P.G. and throughout B.C. with family and co-workers/friends. He also had a passion for watching pro hockey, football, baseball and golf on TV. Wayne was a very honest man, a true gentleman and a loyal friend who treated all those he knew with the utmost respect and a good sense of humor. He had a kind and caring heart, along with a little touch of stubbornness on the side. He handled his illness with amazing courage and dignity to the end. Many thanks and much appreciation to his neighbors and friends for all of their support and kindness during this difficult time in his life and especially to those who visited and took him out to do errands and lunches. Eternal gratitude to Dr. Paul Murray for his special handling of Wayne’s palliative care and to Community Home Care Nurses, Drs and staff of UHNBC cancer unit, Kelowna General Hospital and Cancer Agency and Rotary Hospice House in Prince George for their absolutely remarkable care throughout. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and stroke Foundation in Wayne’s honor would be appreciated. Wayne (“Lucky”) Dunn will be so very sorrily missed and memories of him will be cherished always. May he rest in peace. A celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
Arrangements under the direction of Lakewood Funeral Home, Prince George, BC.
