AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Alfredo Amadeo Mauro

3 août 1930 – 18 décembre 2020
Avis de décès de Alfredo Amadeo Mauro
AUX SOINS DE

Assman's Funeral Chapel

With deep sadness, yet fond memories, we announce the passing of our father, Alfredo Mauro, on December 18, 2020 surrounded by loving family. Preceded in death by his greatest love and wife Maria, his parents, Gaetano and Agata and his older brothers Peter, Vincenzo, Pasquale, and sister Teresa as well as Mother and Father in Law, Emilio and Teresa Fuoco and brothers in law Carmine and Dante Fuoco.

Dad is survived by his large family and those most important to him; sons Gaetano (Karin), Renato (Cassandra), Fausto (Susan) and daughters Agata (Eric) and Franca (Daniel). His ten grandchildren Danielle, Jeremy, Melissa, Jessica, Michael, Lindsey, Fabio, Rico, Cavan, and Natascia and eight great grandchildren, Olivia, Charlie, Matteo, Johnny, Marley, Camden, Beckett and Hudson.

Dad also leaves behind his brothers Salvatore (Rosetta), Mario (Emma), Francesco, Carlo (Franca) and numerous nephews and nieces to remember and celebrate his life.

Dad was a caring and deeply devoted husband, father, Nonno, uncle and brother. He will be remembered for his profound devotion and love for his family, his wisdom, passion for good food (even inexpensive ice cream), family celebrations, wine making, gardening, soccer, F1 racing, bicycle racing and everything Italian. His generosity, willingness to help and support others is how all of his friends and his family will remember him.

Dad was born to parents Gaetano and Agata, on August 3, 1930 in Mangone, Cosenza, Italy. He was the middle child of nine - seven brothers and one sister. In 1950 Dad was called up for service and served in the Italian military for two years, stationed at Pinerolo, 50 Kilometers South West of Turin. In February of 1953, after struggling to find adequate work in Italy, Dad took the opportunity offered him through sponsorship by his older brother Vincenzo, to come to Canada seeking a better life. With little to no money, not speaking or understanding English, no winter clothing and no hint of what awaited him, Dad boarded the ship Vulcania, headed for Canada. After the difficult fourteen-day crossing of the stormy Atlantic, he boarded a train and travelled from Halifax to Vancouver and then to Prince George. Once in Prince George, and reunited with his much respected and beloved older brother, he quickly found work and began his life in his new country, Canada.

It took some time for Alfredo to adjust to the climate and culture of his new country but things got much better when he rediscovered Maria Fuoco, who would become his wife and the love of his life. As Dad describes it, it was love at first sight. They were married on October 29th 1955 and welcomed their first son, Gaetano, on August 5th, 1956 followed by 4 other children over the next nine years.

Over the next many years Dad worked a number of jobs, including working as a baker with the Prince George Bakery, working construction with Northern Concrete and finally as a Carman with the BC Railway prior to retiring.

Mom and Dad were able to share 39 wonderful years together before Mom became ill and was taken from us on February 3, 1994.

Dad’s greatest joy was bringing his large family together. We enjoyed celebrating many Christmases and special occasions with immediate family and large extended family eating and singing around the fancy eating table.

The last time we were able to celebrate with Dad was on his 90th birthday in August, 2020 (in a socially distanced way) at UHNBC. It was heartwarming to see how happy this made him in spite of the distancing.

Dad, we will always love you and miss you. Give Mom a hug from all of us. I’m sure you have already enjoyed a couple of her rice balls.

As you would always say “Love, Love, Love sempre”.

Entombment to follow on Tuesday, January 5, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Ocean View Cemetery located at 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC (limited attendance of 10 people).
