Brice was born on January 19, 1946, in Magrath Alberta, to Walden and Rose Gurney. He was a twin, born just minutes after his older brother Briant.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Wally, Briant, Wayne and his sister Doreen.
Brice grew up on their family farm, where he learned the value of family, loyalty, commitment, hard work, service and the love of animals at an early age. His childhood was filled with milking cows, shearing sheep, collecting eggs, planting and harvesting hay, these experiences shaped his lifelong love of gardening. It was also during these years that he developed a passion for fishing, shooting and the outdoors, interests that stayed with him throughout his life.
After graduating from Magrath High School, Brice served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States. This experience ignited a lifelong devotion to missionary work and education. He was rarely without a pass-along card in his pocket always eager to share his love of the gospel and help others feel the Savior's love.
Upon returning home, Brice attended Ricks College, where he met his future bride, Linda.
They were married for all time and eternity in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Brice also graduated from BYU in political science after their 3rd child was born. Together Brice and Linda built a life rooted in faith, service and devotion sharing 57 years of marriage. Their family was the center of Brice's world, and he took immense pride and joy in each of them.
Brice spent his professional life working for the federal government in immigration, serving faithfully until his retirement in 2002. Retirement, however, did little to slow him down.
His love of service and the saviour never ceased. Over the years, he served as a Stake President, Mission President of the Halifax Nova Scotia Mission, Bishop, Mission Leader, and in many other capacities within the LDS church. He served with integrity, dedication and a quiet strength that earned deep respect.
Brice had many interests and talents. He was an avid reader, a devoted gardener, loved fishing, a lover of tractors- he had a few, he also loved planes and history. He enjoyed woodworking, leaving behind benches, bookcases, and birdhouses lovingly made for his children and grandchildren. He was a true "Mr. Fix-It," always willing to help and serve those who needed a hand. He always had a special love for animals which he graciously passed on to his children.
Brice attributed food with a good social gathering, his linger longer events, potlucks and famous turkey dinners with his family, (no one makes mashed potatoes and gravy like he did) all of which will be missed beyond measure.
He had a famous and well-known sweet tooth-especially for various ice cream treats, a chocolate shake, a lime Slurpee, cake, Nanaimo bars, just to name a few. His suit pocket was stocked with mints and werthers for anyone with good behaviour.
Brice will fondly be remembered for his logical and steady presence, quick wit, unique sense of humor, and the love he freely gave to everyone around him. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he impacted and the family he cherished so deeply.
Brice will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife, Linda, and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
