AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Clarence Hugh Switzer

6 juin 1927 – 21 février 2022
Avis de décès de Clarence Hugh Switzer
AUX SOINS DE

Fraserview Crematorium & Fraserview Crematorium – Cemetery Niches

On February 21, 2022, after dedicating his life to the Lord, Papa passed away peacefully and went to live with Jesus at the age of 94.

Although they lived across the highway from each other, Papa met his future bride and best friend, Irene “Baba”, on an inter school Christian fellowship group hayride. After they met, Baba would watch for Papa to head off for school and then she would leave just in time so that they could walk together.

Eventually they started dating and a few years later, in August of 1949, they married. Together they raised six children, Sharrol (Steve), Shelley (Len), Orrin (Colleen), Cal (Jan), Shar (George) and Bernie (Joan), and were blessed with 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Clarence supported his young family by taking a job with Singer Sewing Centre in Wetaskawin, Alberta. In 1959, after a few years with Singer, he took a transfer, moved and settled his family in Prince George. In 1969, they ventured out and opened Switzer’s Sewing Centre, where for over 30 years they managed the store together in various locations. During that time, Clarence became an expert at fixing all types of sewing machines but in 1999, at the age of 72, he finally retired and closed the store.

During his retirement, Clarence enjoyed spending time in prayer, with family, gardening and puttering around at Tabor Lake. Papa was in his 70’s when he finally took up golf. Although he seemed to like finding lost balls more than the game, he was able to walk the courses and play well into his 80’s. A highlight of these retirement years was a dream fulfilling trip to Israel in May of 2006.

After 73 years of marriage, Papa was still devoted to Baba. He was determined they would remain living together in their family home, which they did, until kidney disease eventually separated the two. By the Grace of God, and sheer determination, Clarence was still able to drive, shovel the snow, mow the lawn, tend to his flowers and feed the birds right up to his last moments here on earth.

Although we know that God is pleased to have one of His angels back in His arms where he belongs, Clarence is deeply missed here on earth.

A Celebration of his Life will be held later this year and Papa will be laid to rest in Wetaskawin, Alberta.
