AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Ida Hilda Nikkel

5 octobre 1925 – 6 décembre 2022
Avis de décès de Ida Hilda Nikkel
AUX SOINS DE

First Memorial Funeral Services Lakewood Chapel

Ida Nikkel (Humphrey) nee Buchi was born in Prince George, B.C. on October, 5th 1925--the second of five children for Gustav and Caroline Buchi who immigrated to Canada from Switzerland in 1923. She grew up on a farm in the area, attended a one-room rural school, and when she finished grade 8, ventured out on her own. Ida then met Alwyn Humphrey, who was posted in Prince George with the Army's Medical Corps. Married in 1943, they moved to his hometown, Toronto, and were raising four boys until his sudden death in 1966. She moved back to B.C.--supporting her family alone. Then while living in Kelowna, she met and married George Nikkel and eventually they moved back to Prince George, happily, until he passed away in 2004. Ida lived independently out on the Hart/Austin road area and could be seen walking almost every day with her trusty cane! She loved gardening, wrote poetry books, her autobiography and did all kinds of crafts. Health issues moved her into the Simon Fraser Lodge where her care was much appreciated.

Ida is survived by her sons Leland Humphrey (Shelby), Sheldon Humphrey (Lorna), Dean Humphrey (Trish) and Keith Humphrey; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Alice and Leona and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Keeping in loving memory her brothers and their wives; Fred and Eva Buchi and Ivor and Joan Buchi.

In Ida's own words...

The Journey Ends

My journey down the road of life came to an end.... I now am free! No earth bound body shall hinder me from flight as my spirit soars into the silent night, my path now paved with everlasting light! Only joy and bliss awaits me as my soul speeds towards the Golden Gate.....grief and sorrow are no more: I had endured my share of those, but still, the path I chose was not all up-hill! Love, and helping hands helped pave my road. Each and every road of life has many bends: travel hopefully until your journey ends!
