It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Mabbett on May 28th, 2023, at the age of 51 years. Mike was born in New Westminster on July 13th, 1971. He moved throughout British Columbia with his family and attended many schools where he got the opportunity to meet a lot of people. Mike joined the ranks of CN Rail in 1990 in Jasper – who knew that summer job would last for 33 years and lead him to meet the love his life who became his wife, Lana Mabbett, in 1994. Although he always said “never” Mike ended up driving around a minivan with 3 wonderful children; Tyler, Emily and Molly. However, he would never admit to this.
Mike will forever be missed by his family. His wife Lana; children Tyler, Emily, and Molly; mother Carol (Ed); stepmother Wendy; mother and father in-law Alvin and Lorna Johnson; sisters Rayna Jorgensen (Dan), Marie Mabbett (Joel) and Becca Yaworski (Jade); sister’s in-law Suerea Haymour (Chuck) and Stacey Johnson (Ronnie); nieces Karley, Natalie and Brooke (James); nephews Jacob, Ryan and Kaley (Rieki).
He is predeceased by his father, Raymond Mabbett. As well as his grandparents on both sides.
Mike has a love for adventure and spent his free time traveling with the ones he loved. Mike discovered ATV-ing in 2017 which became his entire personality for the years to follow. He went to the top of many mountains because he could drive there. He discovered a love for mud that became as good as seeing the top of the mountain--especially when his wife Lana was the one stuck in it. He claimed if you came back clean you weren’t doing it right. No trees were ever too small to winch from--aka “nothing a winch can’t fix”. His love of camping allowed him to increase his territory of ATV-ing and allowed him to get to as many places as possible. He loved to explore these places with his loved ones and their many pets.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at the Prince George Railway and Forestry Museum from 1700 – 2000 hrs. The address is 850 River Road Prince George, B.C. Attire is casual because that is what Mike would like. Families are welcome as well as dogs (on-leash). The railway museum will be open so you are welcome to explore the grounds. Come share some food, tell some stories and celebrate Mike’s life with us.
