Born in Bischberg, Germany in 1939, Regina’s childhood was shaped by the war, leading to a self-reliant, fiercely independent, resourceful woman. Any obstacles that came her way were worn down by her determination and often, her intelligent humour.
These traits served her well when, at the young age of 20, she emigrated to Canada with her husband, Erich. Together in a new country, new language, and new culture, they built a new life with their children Ron and Doris. They worked hard to reach the milestones of success, making Prince George their forever home since 1959.
Throughout her life in Canada, Regina cherished her German roots and culture, often reminiscing of the happiness in even the hardest times there. Special occasions were infused with German traditions. This added a special richness to her presence in our lives.
In her later years, Regina began to disappear into dementia -- but not completely. Her humour and love of family remained intact. Son Ron became her north star during this time, guiding her through the many changes of the illness, offering a constant and caring presence until the end. His devotion provided a tremendous comfort to daughter Doris, son-in-law Tom, and grandchildren Julia and Owen who live in Vancouver and could not be with her as often as they would have liked.
We hope that Regina has now reunited with her beloved Erich, who predeceased her in 2018. They belong together.
We are grateful to the wonderful staff on the first floor of the Gateway Lodge Complex Care unit. Special thanks too to neighbours Carol and Shannon for the visits and company they shared with our Mom.
