He is survived by his sister Sharon (Gary) and brother Donald (Lorraine); children Mitchell (Maleen) and Ellisha and his three grandchildren Melissa, Andrea and Christopher.
Robert was born in Kamloops on May 31, 1951. His family moved from Whispering Pines in Kamloops to Hixon while he was a young boy. Grampa Nelson figured that the kids would be able to find employment more easily in the Cariboo than in the Kamloops areas. Which was true, as Dad was employed while a teenager in the logging mills and then into the bush doing what he loved to do running a skidder for Joe Weldon for 20 years before working in the Stewart, BC area, Burns Lake area then coming back to work in Hixon building roads for Ambrus Logging.
He enjoyed working in the bush, building roads and working around the farm in Hixon. He had plans to travel to the Yukon and to one day bag that big elk. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was generous to his children and grandchildren; always proud of us in whatever we did.
We are thankful to the staff at Rotary Hospice House who cared for him in his last few days and to all of the people who helped him the last few months.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name can be made to the Rotary Hospice House in Prince George, BC.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 1:00 pm on May 28, 2022 at 11745 Lake Creek Road in Hixon, BC. Bring a chair.
