It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Sherri Sawtell. She passed away on March 5th, 2025 at age 55 in Hixon, BC. Sherri was born in Prince George, BC where she lived for the majority of her life. She attended the College of New Caledonia and throughout her life pursued many interests such as modeling, bodybuilding, baking and thrifting the best outfits.
Sherri had four beautiful, smart and funny children (her words but we agree) Hope, Shae, Paige, and Charles; whom she loved dearly. She was a dedicated mother who taught us that laughter is the best medicine, a little bit of kindness can go a long way and to be ourselves no matter what. The latter was evident when she helped her eldest apply goth makeup for “dress as your hero day” in elementary school. Sherri lived and loved loudly and taught her children to do the same. She was a shining light in every room and would never shy away from cracking a joke or starting a conversation with a stranger.
We remember our mother as an environmentalist; often saving usable items from dumpsters and empty cans from the side of the road. As a feminist who made sure her daughters knew being strong was cool and being smart was even cooler. As a philanthropist who would bring blankets and warm clothing to those in need and who would remember that one thing you needed and miraculously show up with it the next day. And as a model, not only in her fabulous glam shots taken in the 80s but in how we should be treating others.
Sherri is survived by her children Hope Sawtell, Shae Sawtell, Paige Sawtell and Charles Edwards; her siblings Greg Guggenheimer, Kristine Sembulak, Seleena McCoshen, Josh Guggenheimer and Brooke Heggie; her parents Paul Guggenheimer and Darlene Jensen as well as her nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and chosen family she adopted throughout her life.
We will be holding a Celebration of Life on April, 26th at 1pm at the Willow River picnic rest stop. We ask that those in attendance bring food to share and/or a story to share about Sherri.
In lieu of flowers we kindly ask to consider a donation to the Prince George Native Friendship Centre.
Finally, we ask that you think of our mother the next time you bake treats for a friend, find a special rock in the river or compliment a stranger. Life is too short not to appreciate the little things.
