Yvonne (Bonnie) Elizabeth Meikle (Hay), aged 88, of Prince George (formerly of Mackenzie), passed away on January 19th, surrounded by her loving family. Bonnie's vibrant spirit and love have left a lasting legacy. She was predeceased by her husband Lyle, granddaughter Crystal, brother Barry Hay and her daughter-in-law Evelyn.
Born on January 14, 1937, in Austin, Manitoba, she was lovingly nicknamed Bonnie, meaning "the beautiful one" by her grandfather. She thrived on the family farm with her five siblings: Morris, Harold, Ronny, Louis, and Barry, creating cherished childhood memories.
In 1955, Bonnie married Lyle in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, and together they raised their four children: James, Rodney, Judy, and Heather. In 1970, they embarked on a new adventure by moving to Mackenzie, BC, where they became pillars of the community. Bonnie and Lyle participated in the ski-doo club and served as legion members. Bonnie's selfless nature shone through her volunteer work with the Hospital Auxiliary in both Mackenzie and Prince George.
Entrepreneurial at heart, Bonnie and Lyle successfully operated several businesses, including Sears, Greyhound, and later Bee Jay's corner and grocery store. They thrived in their ventures, leaving a lasting impact on their communities. Bonnie and Lyle later embraced the quiet life of cabin living on Williston Lake, where they warmly welcomed their six grandchildren—Kory, Dustin, Darcie, Mandy, Bo, and Megan. Summers at the cabin were filled with laughter, adventure, and the creation of core memories that will be cherished forever.
Bonnie's passions included gardening, painting, and attending shows and concerts. She was happiest surrounded by her large family, who meant everything to her. Bonnie's enduring legacy lives on through her four children, six grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of her heart.
Bonnie's life was a testament to love, dedication, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. She will be remembered fondly and celebrated for the beautiful impact she had on the world.
We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new,
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
All we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping,
And we have you in our heart.
Love forever your family
