

Born April 17, 1922 in Trafford, AL, he was the son of the late Joe DeForrest and Ethel (Foust) Calvert. Carroll served his country in the US Army during World War II with the 508th Parachute infantry and was awarded the Silver Star for his gallant service in the war. Carroll then spent his working career as a heavy equipment mechanic and electrician for Westemoreland Coal. He was a member of the Cumberland Heights Baptist Church in Bluefield, and served as the Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #52 in Beckley, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Elam, Etheleen Owens, and Lorene Hope.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Bernice E. (Travis) Calvert of Bluefield, VA, his son, George “Skip” Calvert and wife Camillia of Oak Hill, his daughter, Nancy Lamb and husband Randy of Bluefield, VA, his brother, Joe “Sonny” Calvert of Charleston, a granddaughter, Leslie E. Nagle and husband Harold and 2 great-grandsons, Noah and Reichen Nagle, all of Greensboro, NC.
Services to honor the life of Mr. Calvert will be held at 7:00PM on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jim Kestner officiating.
There will be a visitation prior to the funeral service from 6:00 – 7:00PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Calvert will be entombed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens the following day, and family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
