

David was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving during World War II. He was a resident of Gary the greater part of his life and retired from the U.S. Steel Corporation. His real love was being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. David was a dedicated member of the Gary Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years serving as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Missions Minister, and musician.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Susie B. Hawks; three brothers, James Albert Hawks, Edward Clayton Hawks, and Daniel Hawks; a sister, Virginia Spangler, a half-sister, Ethel Fitzgerald, and a half-brother, Ray Hawks.
Survivors include his two daughters, Sharon Brown and her husband Jim, of Charleston, South Carolina, and Gloria Scott Jashienski and her husband Bill, of Bonneau Beach, South Carolina; one son, David H. Hawks, II, and his wife Tina, of Summmerville, South Carolina. Grandchildren are Steven Brown and his wife Jane of Charleston, South Carolina; Jennifer Scott Grosso and her husband Rocco of Jacksonville, Florida; Phillip Daniel Scott, Matthew Hawks and Kory Hawks, all of Summerville, South Carolina; Arthur Jashienski and his wife Mallory, of Goose Creek, South Carolina. Great-Grandchildren are Evan and Emma Brown of Charleston, South Carolina; Julie Ann, Conner, and Preston Jashienski of Goose Creek, South Carolina.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the Chapel of the Roselawn Funeral Home, 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, West Virginia, with Rev. James Tunnell of Wytheville, Virginia officiating. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
