
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vella Lilly McMillion Knapp, two brothers, Harold Knapp and Charles Knapp, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Dodd.
Born in Alderson in 1919 and a graduate of Alderson High School, he served in World War II in both the 25th and 53rd battalions of the Seabees and was attached to the 3rd Division of the U.S. Marines. Following the war he worked until his retirement for the C & O Railroad. He was a member of the Alderson Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.
Survivors include his stepson, Claude “Red” McMillion (Margaret) of Lewisburg, TN, and four step grandchildren, Kim Holly (Rhea) of Franklin, TN, Andrew McMillion of Madison, TN, Michael McMillion of Nashville, TN and Laura Mitchell (Darryl) and their children, Grayson and Briggs, of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by a sister, Anna Mae Chesher of Buchanan Dam, TX, and several nephews and nieces, including Linda (Mike) Rider and Joanne Hardesty Lightner of Alderson.
Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the Alderson Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Alderson Presbyterian Church, 8 Monroe St., Alderson, WV 24910-9453.
