John was born in Prineville, Oregon on December 15, 1933 to Ervin and Marguerite Grimes.
John married the love of his life, Barbara on May 22, 1955. He was a farmer, and loved the sun. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports, especially football.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara.
He is survived by his son, Mark Grimes of Prineville, Oregon, daughter-in-law Mary Jo Grimes of Prineville, Oregon, and his grandson, Jameson Grimes of Tumalo, Oregon.

A private graveside service was held at Juniper Haven Cemetery.
