Anna Gloria (D’Ambra) Calligano, 88, of Providence passed away peacefully on July 16, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Providence, she was one of four children to the late Aneillo and Marie (Merlino) D’Ambra.
Gloria was the beloved mother of Paul Calligano and Donna Burgess and her husband Joe. She was also the loving grandmother of Justin Burgess, Mollie-Jean DeLisio and husband Luke and Alexa Calligano all of whom she was so proud of! Great Grandmother Gloria, (aka “Triple G”) also had two beautiful great granddaughters, Charlotte Grace and Anabel Ruth DeLisio.
Family was most important to Gloria and we cherished her!
Gloria worked for the City of Providence for 41 years until retiring in 1992 at 59 years old. After retirement, Gloria stayed very active. She was rarely home unless tending to her flowers. Gloria was a lover of live music and could always be found in Garden City on Wednesday nights. Her real passion though was shopping! She loved to shop for anything! Just mention that you couldn’t find an item, and Gloria made it her mission to find it! She also enjoyed gambling at the various casinos, playing Bingo and her bowling leagues at Johnston Town Hall Lanes. She had many friends and loved getting together with them.
Special thanks must be sent to the kind, caring, compassionate staff at Brookdale of Coventry for whom we will be eternally grateful! We were also blessed with our angel nurse, Chantha from HopeHospice Center, whose gentle manner guided us through our pain.
Calling hours to pay your final respects will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 from 4-7 PM in the ROMANO FUNERAL HOME, 627 Union Avenue, Providence. Funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman Street, Ste, 306, Providence, RI 02906 in Gloria’s honor in hopes of a cure.
