

Arthur J. Mendonça, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marie (Fredette) Mendonça, with whom he shared 50 years of devoted and happy marriage.
Born in Newport, Arthur was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Sousa) Mendonça.
Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Army in South Korea and Thailand in the Vietnam Era, a chapter of his life that reflected his sense of duty and commitment.
He was a lifelong learner and dedicated educator. A graduate of Providence College, Class of 1976, he went on to earn his Master’s Degree from Rhode Island College in 1979, followed by a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in 1986. Arthur devoted nearly 40 years of his career to educational technology and took great pride in his work within the Providence Public School System’s IT Department, where he made a lasting impact through his knowledge and dedication.
A true history enthusiast, Arthur possessed a brilliant and inquisitive mind. He found great joy in reading and was always seeking to expand his understanding of the world. Above all, he cherished his family deeply and was especially devoted to his wife, children, and grandson.
He leaves behind his loving daughters, Christine Burton and her husband Dean, and Catherine Mendonça and her Domestic Partner Aaron Leaf. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Daniel J. Burton. Arthur’s love, wisdom, and steady presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 239 Regent Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
