

CRANSTONArthur R. Osterhout, 79, of Ausdale Road, died Friday, February 26 at the home of his loving companion Carole L. Gray of Providence. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on August 11, 1936, Arthur was the son of the late Arthur R. and Mary C. Osterhout. He graduated from West High School in Scranton and attended the University of Scranton. In 1958, at age 21, Art, otherwise known by his broadcasting name "King Arthur Knight" began his career as a radio DJ with WARM in Scranton. In 1962, he accepted the job as Program Director for WICE in Providence. His success at WICE prompted a job offer as the night talk show host for the powerhouse WMEX in Boston. He returned to WICE in 1978, before taking a position at WPRO in 1982. He ended his radio career at WPRO as afternoon drive time host. He was known for his quick wit and sharp intelligence Listeners will surely remember his "breaking brains" segments. His sense of humor and infectious laugh brightened the airways and many a gathering of friends and family. In 2012, he was honored by being inducted into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame. He is survived by his three children, Arthur Osterhout, III, of Raleigh, North Carolina, Deborah Yavorek of Selinsgrove PA and Patricia Osterhout and husband Robert Puharic of Pennsburg PA; three granddaughters, Kathryn Esquer and husband Francisco, Abby and Jillian Yavorek; several beloved cousins, and his companion, Carole. Funeral services, by Rev. Earl O' Cassel, are scheduled for Friday at 10:00AM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, PA, Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter of 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township, PA 18411 or to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
