

Barbara Ann Brennan, 85, of Block Island R.I. and Jupiter, Fl. died Tuesday at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, New London, CT. She was the daughter of Agnes (Reynolds) Keegan and Francis Patrick Keegan and, for more than sixty years, the wife of James Brennan, until his death in 2010. Born in Providence, R.I., Barbara was a graduate of St. Xavier's High School. She spent her childhood in Edgewood, R.I and returned there with her husband to raise their four children. She was a homemaker and, in later years, worked with her husband to develop the family property in Block Island. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Duggan of Abington, MA; Nancy Gilbane of Barrington, R.I.; and David Brennan of Block Island, R.I. She was predeceased by her son, James Brennan, of South Kingstown, R.I. Barbara also leaves her sister, Patricia McGovern of Matunuck, R.I., ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Barbara had great fun wherever she was but particularly enjoyed being on Block Island. She never missed an opportunity to show visitors the land she considered "home" or to tell stories of the humorous times she shared with her husband and many friends there. Barbara loved to sing Irish songs loud and often and did so happily until the end of her days. Visiting Hours are Friday, 4-7 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Gilbane, 140 Adams Point Road, Barrington, R.I. A 12:30 Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, Block Island, R.I. Burial will follow in Block Island Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's name to the Mary D. Fund, P.O. Box 323 Block Island, R.I. 02807, a charitable fund which offers assistance to Block Island families in need.
