Barbara Ann Poirier

Providence: Poirier, Barbara A. (Murphy) 78, of Arnold Street, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Miriam Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Robert E. Poirier, Sr. for 56 years.She was born in Providence, a daughter of the late James and Hannah (Sheehan) Murphy. She was a lifelong resident of Fox Point.Barbara graduated from Saint Mary's Academy Bay View in 1954. She worked for the Diocese of Providence (Providence Visitor) for 33 years and then for 15 years for the City of Providence, retiring in 2002 as the Deputy City Clerk. Besides her husband, she is survived by her three sons, Robert E. Poirier, Jr. and his wife Deborah, Thomas E. Poirier and his wife Dianne, and William J. Poirier and his wife Martha; her sister Margaret Coogan and her brother Kevin Murphy; four grandchildren, James, Ryan, Hannah and Matthew. She was the sister of the lateJames and Daniel Murphy.Her funeral will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 8:30 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in Saint Joseph Church, 92 Hope Street, Providence. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
