

Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late George and Sophie (Fremerman) Goldberg. While Barbara lived in Rhode Island for many years before retiring to Naples, Florida in the late 90s, she and her family moved around the country prior to then making their homes in Connecticut, Ohio and Pennsylvania before settling in Rhode Island.
Barbara became a working mom later in her life and spent many years working as a legal secretary as well as an administrative assistant to a large jewelry distributor before retiring. An avid reader, Barbara also enjoyed music including her much loved Frank Sinatra, playing mahjong, going to the theatre and being a season ticket holder for the Naples Philharmonic. She enjoyed going to the beach and especially loved spending time with her friends and family. Barbara enjoyed and was an ambassador to the YMCA of Collier County for many years. She was married to the late Sheldon Martin Chipman of Lynn, Massachusetts before his passing in 1977. She remarried years later to the late Irving Silverman of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She and Irv were able to enjoy their later years together in both East Greenwich and Naples before his passing.
She is survived by her two children, Barry Chipman and his wife Cheryl of Richmond, RI and Deborah Chipman Beisner of Jupiter, FL; one grandson, Elliot Beisner and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ruth Goldberg Kaplan and Frances Goldberg Garber.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service Monday, November 24, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope Street,Providence, RI. Burial will follow in Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick, RI.
