Boris Rozovsky

Boris Rozovsky was born in Odessa June 8, 1945. The only son of a pediatrician and university professor, he followed in his father’s footsteps to pursue an academic career. He graduated from Moscow State University in 1968 and obtained his PhD, followed by Dr. Science degrees.

Boris together with his family immigrated to the United States in 1988. His professional and academic career flourished in the US. Boris served as a Professor of Mathematics and Director of the Center for Applied Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southern California through 2006. He retired from Brown University as the Ford Foundation Professor of Applied Mathematics. During the span of his illustrious career Boris authored 4 text books and countless research papers and scholarly articles. Boris was a recipient of multiple academic honors and medals. He was a well respected colleague to his peers and an exceptional mentor to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Boris was married to his wife Irina for 55 years. He was a beloved father to his daughter Julie, father-in-law to Ben, and an exceptional grandfather to Mia and Noah. Boris was a doting son and son-in -law.

An avid art collector, reader and traveller, Boris loved to tell a good story and a party. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate his family and friends.

His passing leaves a huge hole in our lives and our hearts. He will be missed by all. May his memory be a blessing.

He is survived by his wife Irina, daughter Julie (Benjamin), and his grandchildren Mia and Noah.

His funeral service will be held Monday, April 28, 2025 at 10:00 am in the Redwood Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence. Burial will follow.

Shiva will be observed at the Rozovsky residence Monday 4/28 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
